No relation to Janet. Works as a body shop owner in Albuquerque, New Mexico and is also responsible for revolutionary management system for the collision industry. No longer races but is involved in local auto-shop courses to help budding mechanics progress with their career and until 2009, ran a Indy Lights team. Son Sean also raced and Jim supported him. Jim remortgaged his house to try and make it in racing and it paid off by winning the 1997 IRL race at Phoenix. Although he has long retired from single-seater racing, Guthrie did race in drift races for a good while.
