Son of Niki, he has recently been in the DTM, Asian Speedcars and the Porsche Supercup series, the NASCAR Whelen Euroseries and in 2015, in sportscars and the World Endurance Championship. He stayed in this and the US Sportscar Series in 2020. Lauda started racing in 2002 in Formula Nissan 2000, completely skipping karting and the normal rungs on the racing ladder. His rise to Formula 3000 was very swift, maybe helped by his surname, but in truth it probably came a little too early in his career and stalled future progress. Since his father's death in 2019, Mathias has also been involved in his dad's legacy and projects relating from that.
