Hugely successful in sportscars, he has been in the discipline for years and was recently in GT3 racing. He is still racing and testing sportscars, but only via his work with Mercedes as a brand ambassador, and so concentrates more on being an instructor and consultant to young drivers, as well as attending Mercedes functions and linking with historic events accordingly. Karl also works as a commentator. All of this has come after surviving a monumental crash at Monaco in 1994 which nearly killed him and was largely responsible for his promising F1 career ending shortly afterwards. Before his drive with Sauber, he performed heroics in a year-old March to get some notable results in 1992 in his first full racing season.
