Killed when he clipped another car during an AAA national championship race, hurtling towards and crashing into a tree - an accident that also claimed the life of his riding mechanic, Jack Jenter, and effectively, Jenter's mother, who died when she heard of Jack's death. Wishart, a rich amateur, had numerous strong finishes, especially in road races and came 2nd in the 1913 Indy 500. He started racing in 1908, and bar his 1913 performance, his probable highlight was winning at Columbus in 1912. Spencer's sister, Mary, later married Dario Resta.
