Predominantly in midgets, where he was successful and respected. So much so, that he had a lot of influence when helping young drivers, one of whom was Bobby Parker, who after Wayne helped him get a midget ride in 1949, went on to win 300 races in the discipline. Selser, whose middle name was the unusual name of Yohe (his grandmother's maiden name), built and designed his own cars and for a long time was based in Kansas City and also in St. Louis, where he was often listed as being born. Both the Selser and Yohe family ancestry derives from Germany. His Indianapolis 500 effort was his only experience at big car or single-seater level.
