Young businessman, who originally went into racing as a driver - he competed in sportscars with his family friend Tony Settember in 1961, and after a joint project in Formula 1 failed, Powell later raced in Can-Am in 1967 and 1969. The F1 attempt came when Powell, who came into huge wealth as a teenager, and Settember bought Emeryson, although Powell's original involvement was actually because he had ordered a Formula Junior car to race himself which wasn't ready and when Settember went to England to speak to a few people, things snowballed from there. After Can-Am, Powell disappeared from the sport and hasn't been heard of since.
