Matra (1966-1972)

Best known for his Matra projects, throughout the 1960's and 1970's, he later did some work on road car projects, including some with Henri Julien. He often tested his cars as well, often with decent results and back in 1962 and 1963, he competed at the Le Mans 24 Hours with Guy Verrier in a Dyna initially, then an Alpine M63. He started at Matra as an engineer before moving into design. After he left Matra, Bernard worked as a consultant engineer. Bernard released his biography in 2008 and remained interested in the sport. Boyer's finest achievement was arguably designing the Matra M80, which Jackie Stewart won the World Championship with in 1969. Bernard also raced motorcycles in the 1950's. A mechanically minded driver, he also worked on Panhard engine development and stayed with Matra to work on missile development. Died in 2018.
