An ambulance driver in World War 1 for the Red Cross, he was killed in action. Son of a eminent lawyer, who would then become one of the founders of the Mason Car Company. George started racing in 1912, largely for fun and enjoyed long-distance endurance races. A quite chubby chap, Mason was a very consistent finisher, racing mostly for the Ogren-Duesenberg firm. Mason then volunteered to serve his country, using his driving skills accordingly. He reached the rank of 1st Lieutenant in World War 1, but it took his family nearly two years to get his body back after his death not that long before the end of the hostilities.
