Killed in a sprintcar crash. Based for a large part in California, he mainly drove in midgets and roadsters. Reid moved to California to work in Hollywood movies, but ended up racing midget cars from 1946 onwards. He also drove roadsters, including driving a Plymouth car but had his best success in midgets, taking numerous wins, enjoying a very successful 1949 season. Reid still worked in the movie industry at the time of his death, which occurred when he lost control of his car and it climbed over the guardrail into the crowd, killing three spectators and giving another fan life-changing injuries. In total, the crash also injured over sixty people. Reid's widow, a showgirl, was briefly married to Eddie Sachs.
