Killed in a midget race when his car went out of control. Based in Gary, Indiana, Romcevich was a veteran midget driver who owned his own Kurtis-Offenhauser midget car. He was born as Slavko Romcevic in a town that was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, but has since been in Yugoslavia, Croatia and Serbia. The family moved to the United States in 1922 and Pete took up the sport as a teenager at the local Roby Speedway in 1925. Pete was also a race car builder, and owned his own shop in Hammond, Indiana, near the Roby Speedway. He built a Riley-Ford-powered sprint car amongst other midget and sprint cars. Pete died when his car's front suspension collapsed and he was sent careering over the guardrail into the public car park.
