Long-distance commercial truck driver (and later on, a railroad delivery driver) who put the finance together to attempt a crack at Indy and by relieving Jim Hill, got his chance at the top, but it didn't lead to a full-time career. Ostrander relieved Hill on three separate occasions during the Indianapolis 500; the first was on lap 30, for 57 laps, the second on lap 108, for another 7 laps and then finally between laps 176 to 197, a total of 95 laps racing in total.
