Killed in an Indy car event, when his steering broke and the subsequent crash into a fence saw him suffer fatal burns. A decent racer, he was particulary successful in 1919, winning 3 races. Sarles had planned to quit racing at the end of 1922 to take up a career stunt-driving in Hollywood and certainly didn't seem as focused in his last racing season, not taking any wins. Sarles was Louis Chevrolet's riding mechanic and Roscoe worked for Louis' business - Frontenac -as an engineer after quitting university to take up racing.
