Sometimes referred to as an Italian, called Giovanni Rossi, Jimmy Rossi was American, albeit of Italian descent. Started off (and primarily acted) as a mechanic, but also raced on some occasions. Rossi initially tried to qualify back in 1924, in a Ford T Fronty-Ford, but didn't get close to setting a viable time. He then competed in the event itself twice but in a riding mechanic or relief driver role. In 1929, he relieved Rick Decker for 12 laps in the Miller and then in 1930, in a Maserati, he relieved Baconin Borzacchini for four laps. Based in Illinois, after marrying a Belgian lady, he was a motor mechanic and car salesman.
