Decent driver who raced in a variety of events, including Tasman, Formula Atlantic and Formula 5000. Raced in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and North America. His family had deep involvement in the St. Jovite track in Canada as well as being descendents of J.W. McConnell, the Montreal Star publisher and philanthropist (David is his grandson). McConnell was also an instructor at the Mont-Tremblant circuit during his racing career. After an unsuccessful practice for the fourth round of the 1973 F2 season, following 3 races where was not competitive, McConnell retired on the spot, realising he was not competitive and his career wouldn't progress and moved back to Canada. Dave is still involved in the JW McConnell Foundation and anything to do with his grandfather's legacy.
