Best known as a sportscar driver, in which he raced for aeons; from 1968 to 1991, although towards the end, it was largely just the annual Spa 24 Hours race. Now runs an advertisement agency and business and attends many historic festivals. Unbeatable in Belgian Formula Ford, Claude won the Johnson Wax Euro Trophy, beating Colin Vandervell tin the European Formula Ford final to get a paid F3 Lotus for 1971. Bourgoignie won the Belgian Touring Car Championship in 1972, racing a Ford Escort RS 160 and then again in 1978, this time in a Porsche. Claude's best result at Le Mans was fourth in 1981 and he won his class that year too. He also had a brief spell in an F1 Surtees TS20 in the 1979 Aurora AFX British Championship. Claude still lives in Brussels.
