Midget legend, who until his recent illness and subsequent death was a regular visitor to historic events. Continued racing until 1984 and helped his two sons who also raced round this time and then latterly his grandson who also raced. Real name John Barbaro, Johnny started racing on asphalt tracks near his birthplace. He raced stock cars, sprint cars and three-quarter midgets, but it was full midgets that he was best at. He raced from 1946 until 1984, a mammoth spell. He won the 1949 Auto Racing Association/Midget Auto Racing Association series. He won sixty-nine ARDC events and won the ARDC Midget title four times in five years from 1968 to 1972, missing out only in 1970. Coy also competed in NASCAR and was a qualified and gifted mechanic.
