Sadly died recently, after a long and brave battle against cancer, at his home in Oregon. He stayed linked with the sport, through historic meetings, test drives and internet forums until his dying day. He also produced calendars with photos from his racing collection and wrote a book about his career in the early 2000's. Len got into racing after intially working in aircraft maintenance, starting his career in dirt track racing just after the Second World War. Len won four state championships in dirt track racing between 1949 and 1955. Len then moved into Indy Cars and won three times between 1958 and 1960, before retiring in 1965. Sutton later commentated on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's radio station.
