The 1956 Indianapolis 500 winner, Pat died after a long battle with cancer. Drifted away from the sport for a while and took up pigeon racing. Also ran a bar in Chicago for a while. After his top-line career ended, Flaherty set up a portable go-kart track, made of wood, which he took to state fairs. To drum up business, he often raced against all-comers and more often than not won! Also worked in the automobile wholesaling business, buying cars from dealers, refurbishing them, and then selling them on thereafter.
