Only retired from racing in his 80's, after health issues stopped him competing. Sadly, these health issues led to his death shortly afterwards. Ran, with his family, Pete Lovely Racing, which was not only for racing, but for restoring and maintaining vintage race cars, particularly Lotuses, in Puyallup, Washington. Pete's grandson also races motocross to keep the family tradition going, whilst his son, Chris worked in the IRL as a crew member for many temas until he died of cancer in 2016. Lovely was also a Volkswagen garage owner who was a regular sportscar racer - and winner - in the 1950's before moving to Europe to race, winning his class at the Reims 12 Hours in 1958 to enjoy almost instant success. After he stopped Grand Prix racing, Pete also ran a Can-Am team.
