Largely based in Illinois, but also, during his peak during his midget career, based in Hammond, Indiana. Roy often played the organ, and often with his wife Mary Lou. She was so accomplished musically, that when she died in 1998, Mary Louise Plants (she remarried after Roy and Mary divorced) got an official tribute in the Illinois General Assembly. A midget ace, Roy started off as a motorcycle racer. A varied racer and person, he was a very accomplished piano player. His son Ronald, was named after his hero, Ronnie Householder. Ronald himself went on to also play the organ in churches and theatres but also became news producer of WBIG Radio in Aurora.
