A success in CART, he switched to the IRL, where he spent a long time with Michael Andretti's team, but then had years with Ganassi. Won the Indy 500 in 2013. In 2023, he finished his long Indycar career and is now sporting director of the Arrow McLaren team. However he chose to also race in the Porsche Cup in his homeland. Kanaan has also raced in a number of other series as one-offs, including stock cars in his homeland, ALMS, Grand-Am and even Formula Nippon, winning the Daytona 24 Hour race in 2015. Tony is of Lebanese ancestry, and his birth name of Antoine Rizkallah Kanaan Filho gives more than a nod to his Middle-Eastern origins.
