A immensely likeable, humble man, who is now retired from driving after the odd drive in endurance or touring cars. Still climbs mountains (including Everest in 2001), but was lucky to survive a incident on Mount Fuji, in which 2 colleagues died. Successfully beat back cancer and Ukyo also runs a Japanese career/adventure support agency and has many business interests, as well as appearing on TV. Now also more involved in the sport as a team boss, as he still runs a Super GT team.
