Died of his injuries sutained after an accident in the F2 race at Hockenheim. One of the real lost talents, Hottinger was pretty good at everything he tried, including gymnastics and ski-ing, and was academically talented too. A brief spell at Mercedes led to an interest in car racing and from there on, Hottinger just shone in any machinery he was given. He would've raced in his home Grand Prix in Austria in 1980, which probably would've led to great things, had he not perished in the F2 crash.
