Sadly passed away in 2019 after a battle against cancer. A few weeks before his death, knowing he was terminally ill, he drove a Mazda MX-5 around Silverstone on one last racing lap. A decent Formula 5000 driver who also raced in sportscars. For many years, Alan ran a garage in his hometown and also owned a vehicle repair business. He also worked as a paint sprayer and haulier in Bridgnorth, Shropshire. Alan enjoyed a long career in the sport, starting in 1962 and finishing in 1984. A race winner in Formula Junior, Alan's rise was quite rapid (maybe too rapid) and a deserved Formula 1 chance never came after non-qualification at the British Grand Prix in 1965. This was despite being a race winner in Formula 3, Formula 2, European Formula 5000 and the Tasman Series, as well as winning the Grovewood Award in 1967 for his efforts in Formula 3. Alan also had tests with Lotus and Surtees but that was as close as he came to making Grand Prix racing again.
