A jeweler from Altrincham, whose father, who later became the mayor of Bury, founded the company in 1905, which is still going strong, still under John's tutelage. John now lives in Spain although he returns for Chevron linked historic festivals. A popular, but somewhat reclusive man, he didn't really look like a classic racing driver, but his results were solid enough to gain him respect in the sport.
