Nationality:

Great Britain

Son of Tony Vandervell, who only started racing after his father's death because Tony had seen enough death in the sport and banned Colin from racing. A real naturally gifted driver, he dominated Formula Ford in 1970, and was adept at rallying, Formula 3 and Formula Atlantic, winning the 1973 Yellow Pages Formula Atlantic title. Now works as a financial adviser and even during his racing days, he was a property and currency investor and it was his interest in that, that in truth, probably stopped him achieving more success or making F1, although his interest in the sport was also hit by the deaths of Birrell and Williamson. He wore green corduroy trousers beneath his overalls, and later lived in Monaco.
