Killed during a Shellsport 5000 race, when he slid wide in a wet track and hit a concrete marshal's post. Brother of Peter, who also died in a racing crash, back in 1969. Did reasonably well in Formula 2, but it was somewhat of a stop-start career in the series. Wingfield was a friend and business partner of touring car legend Gerry Marshall who owned a few Brabham racing cars; he drove in a BT30 in Formula 2 in 1970 and 1971, and a BT36 in 1972. Wingfield was also a regular in the Formula Libre series in the 1970's.
