A versatile driver, he is still alive and kept links to the sport before the onset of ill-health. Mike started in the sport in 1960 whilst also working as a car salesman for the Normand Group in North London. This link helped springboard Mike's career when they help buy and then sponsor a Lotus 23 for Mike to race in during 1962. Mike took numerous wins in the car, proving most capable in sportscars, but he also made his (non-championship) F1 debut in 1963 and also was a BRM test-driver for a short while in 1964. Beckwith then went on to compete in both Formula 3 and Formula 2 for the rest of the decade. He carried on racing until 1970, at which point, he decided to concentrate on his car salesman role.
