Boesel had a decent spell in CART and then latterly, sportscars and the Brazillian touring car championship. Nephew Luiz also races. Raul is retired now from driving and is now a commentator, journalist and disc jockey! He got into racing cars from a bakground of racing karts and then progressed to Formula 1 very early in his career. Although Raul was a longtime regular in US open wheel racing, his greatest success came in sportscars, winning the 1987 World Sportscar championship, taking five wins and then also winning the 1988 Daytona 24 Hour race.
