Later turned to the world of business, before his sudden death from a heart-attack. Larreta was the son of a gentleman racing driver who competed in the late 1930's and early 1940's. Alberto himself started in 1953, competing in sports cars in his home nation as well as the endurance road racing that was so popular in Argentina at the time. He retired from four Buenos Aires 1000Kms sportscar races before joining Team Lotus for the 1960 Temporada season. Gaining an entry for the Argentine Grand Prix, Alberto finished a respectable ninth after qualifying fifteenth. Alberto didn't get a full-time Lotus contract so returned to racing sportscars but also competed in Formula Junior for a short while before winding up his career in 1971 in touring cars.
