After a long while out of a drive after his Formula 1 spell, Gaston appeared in CART, but from 2005, was largely unemployed. However, in 2007, he returned to a more steadier drive, in endurance racing, plus some touring car racing in his homeland. Now more recently in Formula Trucks in Brazil and touring cars in Argentina, the latter of which he continued in 2025. He is now the vice-president of the ACTC (Asociación Corredores de Turismo Carretera), but is still driving. Gaston was named after Gaston Perkins, the racing driver, who won the 1969 Argentine Turismo Carretera title.
