Killed in a crash at Langhorne. Brother of Paul, dad of Eddie. Decent racer, an Indianapolis 500 regular. Russo, who lived in Detroit had just finished fifth a short while before his death in the 1934 Indianapolis 500. Russo was best remembered as a dirt-track racer and had been racing since the mid-1920's. He was also a qualified mechanic and also enjoyed doing stunt driving. One of his special tricks was to drive around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway blindfolded! His widow, Helene, later married Billy Winn, who also tragically died, like Joe, after a short spell of marriage to Helene. Helene had bought two plots of land with the intention of being buried next to Joe, but in the end she buried Winn and Russo side by side.
