Primarily a riding mechanic, Murphy also acted, as he did in 1911, as a relief or test driver during the early 1910's. His 1911 Indianapolis relief foray came when he supported Spencer Wishart in the Mercedes for a number of laps. Other than that, Murphy doesn't appear to have driven in his own right anywhere else. He worked as a automobile parts salesman for a while before running a garage for over thirty years. Full name was David Duncan Murphy Jr.
