Touring car legend in his homeland, who raced for over 40 years in the discipline, taking over 150 wins in all competitions. His last win came in 2001, 40 years after his debut in the category. He won the Championship, in its various forms fourteen times, between 1977 and 1999. Also competed in rallies and touring cars in Europe. Juan Maria remains involved in the category but is also involved in media and public speaking. He even appears in one-offs still and has a role in organisation of touring car series. Traverso had planned for a longer single-seater career but the state of the Argentine economy didn't allow for any more progression other than his single year in single-seaters.
