Died relatively recently, in a nursing home in Mannheim, after a period of ill health. Mainly raced Formula 2 in East and West Germany. He was often seen in a BMW Special (his own construction) or a Veritas RS car. He largely restricted himself to national events only, often in the Monopostorennen. Despite being almost only based in Germany, Oswald twice raced in not only another country, but another continent; he competed in the 1953 and 1954 Casablanca 12 Hour race in Morocco.
