Started illegally in his one GP. Raced on in sportscars through most of the eighties and is still involved in the truck and asphalt business. Returned to the tracks briefly, in 2004, in a few German races, to make (and mark) his 1000th motor race of his career. That was his last race, and he now helps his son's career and does some driver instructing too. Also released an autobiography in 2008. Heyer was the 1974 European Touring Car Champion and 1975, 1976 and 1980 German Racing Champion.
