Probably better known for his touring and sportscar drives, he raced for about 10 years in the sport. Now lives in Alicante, Spain, where he runs an estate agency and a couple of sporting based hotels, but still follows the sport. Werner started racing in the late 1960's, initially in touring cars, racing a Lotus Elan, Alfa Romeo 1300 GTA and more successfully, a Ford Escort. He then moved into single-seaters for a short while in both Formula 2 and Formula 3 before moving back to touring cars. From 1977 onwards, he increased his involvement in sportscars, before retiring in 1978.
