Later ran his own team, but was best remembered for driving in sportscars, with a victory at Daytona in 2002 a highlight, but he also won in Europe and many times in Grand-Am. Fredy retired in 2008, and lives in Niederteufen, where he runs two office furniture businesses, but he also has a museum in Romanshorn. Fredy established the museum and still has involvement but is son, Fredy jr. runs it now. Fredy Jr. also raced. Lienhard was never a full-time professional racer, and only started as a hobby, initially in hillclimbing. However his enthusiasm and his ability led him to appearing in Formula 2, although his second stint in 1983 was very much due to an opportunity arising rather than career progression.
