Was with Renault as engineering director, but for his role in the Singapore Grand Prix race-fixing scandal, he was banned from the sport for five years. After part of his ban was relaxed, he joined Marussia as a consultant, but in 2013, once his ban was over, he joined Williams as chief technical engineer, where he remained until 2016. Now works as Sky TV's technical commentator. Also currently writing technical articles for F1 Racing magazine as well as a French magazine, and runs his own successful engineering consultancy firm. Symonds, who has a degree in aerodynamics, started his Formula 1 career with Toleman, before it morphed into Benetton. He initially worked as a race engineer for Sandro Nannini and Teo Fabi before becoming more involved in the design department in the early 1990's.
