Born:

23 Mar 1939
Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire

Nationality:

Great Britain

Teams:

ATS, Larrousse, March, McLaren (1966-1994)

Respected designer who sold March in 1991, to form his own company, which later led to collaboration with Larrousse and Fondmetal. Then went into football, becoming Chairman of Oxford United FC and then formed a natural energy production company. More recently, he was involved with March again, only this time in America. Robin is now retired. Before he moved into motor racing, Herd was not only a design engineer and scientific officer on the Concorde supersonic aircraft project in the early 1960's, he was also a talented cricketer. Robin chose to study at University, rather than sign a contract with Worcestershire. When he moved into racing, he initially worked with McLaren, before becoming one of the main driving forces in the single-seater side of the sport for some fifteen years. He still keeps as many links to racing as feasibly possible.
