Until his recent death, John was very much involved in the engine and motor racing business, which was affiliated with McLaren. His engine company were also suppliers to the Grand Prix Masters series. The business has grown and diversified in recent years, and now also supply and repair aviation engines, as well as other aviation parts, and also they are distributors for an alternative fuel program. John was a qualified engine tuner and also drove in powerboat racing between 1977 and 1984. Nicholson in later life raced on his jet ski near both his UK home in Berkshire, and his New Zealand home in Clarks Beach, where he enjoyed playing golf.
