Holding a doctorate in mechanical engineering, Stella has most of his Formula 1 career at Ferrari. He started as a race performance engineer from 2002, spending the next 13 years in the role, working closely with Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso. In 2015, Stella joined McLaren as Head of Race Operations before becoming Performance Director in 2018, staying in that role for the next five seasons. In 2023, he took over as team principal of McLaren.
