Former mechanic with Cooper and Brabham, who is best known for being the long-serving boss of McLaren. Initially Dennis, with his friend Neil Trundle, attempted to enter the Rondel car in Formula 1 but when this fell through he entered teams in Formula 2 and Formula 3 before taking over at McLaren in 1980. Dennis then built the team up to be extremely successful with multiple driver and constructor title's. Dennis stepped down from the team principal role in 2009 to focus on the road car division. In 2014, Dennis became group CEO and Chairman, but in 2016, stepped down from being the head of McLaren, but he still had a 25% stake in the business for a few months before cutting all ties, leaving them in 2018. Dennis still concentrates on his interests in catering and has a lot of business connections in Asia. In the New Year's Honours list in 2024, he was awarded a knighthood, both for his motorsport service but also for his charity work, including for Tommy’s, which is a UK charity researching the causes and prevention of pregnancy complications, miscarriage, stillbirth and premature births.
