No relation to Johnny. After a spell in karts, Rich started full-time racing in 1982 and acquitted himself reasonably but a lack of sponsorship led to him abandoning hopes of progress to CART. He then switched to the Skip Barber Racing School as a race instructor, a role which he has kept involved with ever since. Rutherford became a stunt driver in 1992 for TV and film and has worked on numerous commercials, TV shows and films, including Jurassic World, Need for Speed, Iron Man 2 and Avengers Assemble. Rich still takes parts in drift challenges as well.
