Was still involved, until quite recently, in motorsport, as a team boss in numerous series, including the IRL. For many years, he ran his Allstate Transmissions and ATI Auto Repair businesses in Richardson, Texas and stayed linked to the sport. As a racer, he was 1979 SCCA Formula Ford Rookie of the Year and 1980 South Atlantic Road Racing champion. A good friend of Jim McElreath, who he was involved with in the sport, a lack of finance, some bad luck and business commitments curtailed his racing career. Although often listed as coming from Garland, Texas, he was actually born in California, with his family moving to Texas whilst he was a small boy. He worked as an oil station manager and as a transmission dealer as well as running his own car dealership before running his other businesses. Died in 2026.
