Legendary Italian motorsport figure. He retired in 1988, after heading Motori Moderni and designing an engine for Subaru's F1 attempt with Coloni, to end a near-lifetime in the sport. Chiti gained a degree in aeronautical engineering, joining Alfa Romeo as an apprentice, moving up to design their 3000 CM sportscar. Chiti then moved to Ferrari when Alfa wound down their racing activities, becoming famous for his involvement in the successful sharknose cars that won the 1961 drivers and constructor World Championships. A disastrous attempt to form a new team, ATS, saw him leave Ferrari, and via a new company, Autodelta, he rejoined Alfa Romeo in sportscars. In various guises, he remained with the company, often involved in their engine designs before his involvement with Motori Modena.
