Thoroughbred Grand Prix 1995
The HSCC series continued in 1995 but was now given a FIA sanction and a new name, the FIA Cup for Thoroughbred Grand Prix Cars. The June trip to the Nurburgring and the September Donington remained on the schedule, but for the first time in a decade, there was no Silverstone race in September. A trip to Brno was included for the first time. The Autumn Bank Holiday jamboree to the beach at Zandvoort was not part of the championship and was organised by David McLaughlin's FORCE instead.
Of the newer cars, John Wilson had a 1983 Williams FW08C, Bob Berridge had a 1983 RAM 01, and Ian Giles and Geoff Farmer both had 1984 Tyrrell 012s. However, these cars were built to flat-bottom rules so the full ground-effect cars might prove quicker if their owners could develop them. Quickest of this group in 1995 were Sean Walker in the 1981 Lotus 87B and John Fenning in the 1980 Williams FW07B. Martin Stretton would often prove that older machinery could also be competitive in the right hands and took two podium finishes in his 1972 Tyrrell 005.
