A former team boss in ALMS, Kuhn died in a body surfing accident at Long Beach Island. After his driving career he was general manager of the ROBCO Racing Team. More recently, he had been working as a self-employed contractor before his untimely death. As a driver, he burst to prominence in 1980 when he won both the USAC and SCCA Formula Super Vee titles, beating the likes of Josele Garza, Pete Halsmer and Michael Chandler. Peter also won the 1978 Ford North East Driving Championship. As well as his love of surfing, Kuhn was a keen music fan. Before racing, Kuhn was an arborist (tree surgeon) and initially carried on doing this whilst he made a name for himself.
