1965 (first half of year only surveyed)

The year started for the little BT8 when Hulme took fastest lap at the Silverstone BARC "200" meeting (AS 26 Mar 1965 p463). Sid Taylor, who would run the car in minor races that season, took third at Croft opener at the end of March (AS 2 Apr 1965 p498).

Hulme wins 2-litre class at Goodwood (AS 23 Apr 1965 p624) from Hitchcock's SC-4-64 and later won the Oulton Park TT on 1 May (AS 7 May 1965 p694), having started fourth on the grid. Taylor then took the very same machine to a dismal fifth in a force 10 gale at Croft (AS 14 May 1965 p731) a week later! It was then Hulme's turn at Silverstone's International Trophy support race (AS 21 May 1965 pp780-782), mixing it with the big boys again to finish fourth and win his class yet again.

Taylor finally pulled himself into the Autosport Championship reckoning with a win at Mallory the next day (16 May) (AS 21 May 1965 pp769,778) after a fine battle with Keith St John's Elva. A week later, just in case the BT8 needed some exercise, Taylor found a libre race at Castle Combe, organised by Hagley & District Light car Club (AS 28 May 1965 p829), and finished second to the Cooper-Cobra of John Axon. He then took third in the sports car race at the BARC meeting at Oulton Park (AS 4 Jun 1965 p865) - a sixth race meeting in five weekends.

Hulme comfortably won both heats of the Guards Trophy at Mallory Park on 6 June (AS 11 Jun 1965 p910) and also won the Crystal Palace Whit Monday race for 2-litre sports cars (AS 11 Jun 1965 pp914-915) - that's eight race meetings in six weekends. Taylor took another win at Oulton Park the next weekend (12 June) in the Mid-Cheshire MC's round of the Autosport Championship, boosting Taylor to second overall in his class (AS 18 Jun 1965 pp940,944).

Another two-meeting weekend beckoned and Taylor won an Autosport Championship round at Silverstone on the Saturday and then took the sports car race, the libre race and the outright circuit record at Brands Hatch on the Sunday (AS 25 Jun 1965 pp989,993,1007). That's 11 races in eight weekends.

A trip to Ireland was planned for the last two weekends in July, taking in the Leinster Trophy and the Phoenix Park races (AS 11 Jun 1965 p895).
