3-litre Formula 1 World Championship events 1966-1985
These 1966 to 1985 results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.
All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen at allen@oldracingcars.com if you can help with our research.
Individual sources for this event
Autosport 26 Jul 1968 pp24-33. Motor Sport August 1968 pp692-693. Motoring News 25 Jul 1968 pp1,16,18-20. Speedworld International preview 20 Jul 1968 pp28-29 and report 27 July 1968 pp14-24. As SWI was published on a Saturday, its preview came out on the morning of the GP and said that the Cooper-Alfa had been withdrawn on the Monday. It also omitted the BRM that John Webb had been trying to negotiate for Tony Lanfranchi and the Cooper T86 that American Tom Jones had been trying to buy. T cars were given their own numbers, starting from 30, and Motor Sport listed Stewart's usual spare Matra MS10, the usual spare Brabham BT24, Chris Amon's spare Ferrari, and then a spare BRM V12 and a spare McLaren M7A, none of which raced. Autosport and SWI mentioned all of these except the Matra, which was the only one not to record a practice time.
